The Google Business Profile Mistakes Costing Eastern Ontario HVAC Contractors Service Calls

We've looked at a lot of HVAC listings across Kingston, Cornwall, and the towns between, and the same handful of mistakes show up again and again. None of them are hard to fix. All of them are quietly costing calls.

Wrong or Incomplete Primary Category

HVAC contractor is the category Google actually uses to decide who shows up for heating and cooling searches. We regularly find businesses filed under General contractor or Contractor instead, which buries them for the exact searches that should be sending them work.

Service Area Stops at the Edge of Town

If your service area on Google only covers your home town, you won't show up when someone two towns over searches for a furnace repair company. Eastern Ontario customers regularly search past their own town line, especially in smaller communities with fewer local options. Your listed service area should match where you're actually willing to drive, not just where your shop sits.

No Emergency or After-Hours Signal

HVAC searches spike around breakdowns, not routine maintenance. If your hours, your emergency service attribute, and your Google posts don't make it obvious you handle after-hours calls, you're invisible during the exact moment most searches happen.

Stale or Missing Photos

A profile with five-year-old photos, or none at all, reads as inactive to both Google and the homeowner deciding who to call. Recent job photos, your trucks, your team, do double duty: they help your ranking and they build trust before the phone even rings.

Reviews Going Unanswered

This one's simple and it's the most commonly skipped. A reply to every review, especially the critical ones, shows an owner who's actually paying attention. We see plenty of four and five-star profiles with zero owner replies, that's a missed trust signal, not just a missed SEO one.
